FREYA ELLIOTT

Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm Freya and I'm a 20-something year old just trying to find their way in the world (aren't we all?).

When I was 15, I lost my wonderful mum to secondary breast cancer. I'll never forget that night in the hospice when I had to say goodbye.

A few years later, I lost both of her parents, who I was living with, to cancer as well. I threw myself into my studies and kept pushing forward. But during my masters year when I found everything had become too much to bear, I finally reached out.

I joined the parental loss group where I met the rest of the team, and there I discovered an overwhelming sense of belonging. It was the first time I had spoken openly with others who understood what I had been through and how I was feeling. I used to bottle everything up, but now I've found a freedom in talking about my grief and sharing my experience with others.

Through Grieve and Groove I hope that we can reach young people who are struggling with their grief, whether they have lost someone recently, or a long time ago- everyone's experience is valid. At Grieve and Groove we accept that grief is a part of us, and always will be, but that doesn't mean that we can't find our groove again. I hope that we can support each other to grieve, groove, and grow.

Lots of love,

Freya
